When I went to see Star Wars in 1977 as a kid, I was blown away with the music, as well as with the robots, and decided music is what I wanted to do seriously in life. I wanted to play for a great orchestra and for the movies and television. I have since played the Star Wars movies in concert at the Sydney Opera House with the SSO and have recorded for the Star Wars Clone Wars TV series and met R2-D2 in real life finally at the Sydney Opera House, where my orchestra is based”….

More About Steve Rossé

Steve Rossé studied with Brent Dutton and Roger Bobo in his home state of California, and with Daniel Perantoni at Arizona State University from 1983-87. He furthered his study in Chicago with Arnold Jacobs and then in Europe with Mel Culbertson, Michale Lind, and Robert Tucci. Following a succession of over a dozen auditions, Steve was successful in New Mexico, San Antonio, Torino ( Italy), and Sydney. After joining the Sydney Symphony Orchestra in 1990 he commuted for several years to Boston and Philadelphia to perform as Guest Principal Tuba with those orchestras. For most of 2018 Steve served as Visiting Principal Tuba with the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra of Amsterdam. As a studio artist, Steve can be heard on tuba and cimbasso in some Hollywood hits such as The Lego Movie, Lego Batman, Happy Feet II, The Gods of Egypt, Legends of the Guardians, Australia, The water Deviner, and more, as well as for television and commercials. As a soloist Steve has commissioned , premiered and recorded many new works for tuba and brass, and most are available on his YouTube Channel. Steve’s passion is teaching, mentoring , and coaching. His teaching is holistic. He is also a professional Life Coach and will soon will be completing of a Certificate IV in Fitness with a Diploma in Nutrition. Steve is Head of Tuba at the Australian National Academy of Music ( ANAM), the University of Sydney, Sydney Conservatorium of Music, and from 2013-19 was Assistant Professor at the Zurich ZHdK University of the Arts in Switzerland. Steve founded TubaMania in 1993 and hosted his first TubaMania Ingternaitonal Conference in 1995 in Sydney. Since then he has hosted over a dozen TubaMania Festivals and Academies throughout Asia and Australia. Many of today’s famous tuba and low brass artists were featured students, competitors and emerging artists at some of these events. Dozens of Steve’s former full-time students now occupy major orchestra and military band positions and university teaching positions throughout the world.
