Tuba Band
Based
in Sydney with gigs lined up around Australia and in South-East Asia, The Groovin’ Tuba Band
is a new-concept fusion band that performs classical jazz to pop and hard
rock (including original compositions). This new inovative ensemble
uses a unique combination of
mainly tubas with added euphoniums (inc. optional trombone), guitars, drums, and
vocals. This new band's core
members come from Ian Fisher's Tubas of
Mass Destruction Tuba Quartet (TMD), Maharani Cantus Rock Band, Sydney and
Tasmanian Symphony Orchestras, Royal Austrlian Navy Band, and the Sydney Conservatorium of Music. The
group will put a minimum six members on stage at a time (or four using the
origional Tubas of Mass Destruction charts wt its members), and will put up to
ten on stage at once when using all its core members.
The lighter jazz works usually will use a combination of four to six
tubas/ euphoniums with a trombone option, bass guitar, and drums.
The heavier hard rock pieces may use up to three electric guitars, drums,
vocals, and tubas/ euphonium(s) with a trombone option.
The
groups’ repertoire includes works by Herbie Hankock, Louis Armstong, Randy
Brecker, Thelonius Monk,
Apocalyptica, Disturbed, Led Zeplin, Guns 'n' Roses, Palmy (Thai pop star), and more, plus
original compositions in the style of jazz and rock.
